Trailer for Love Hate Love

One of my friends sent me a link to Love Hate Love Movie (her friend’s company is submitting the documentary to the film festival circuit), and thought I’d share it here – I watched the trailer and it looks like a documentary I’d enjoy.

Documenting A Twitter Moment

Sweet – I just randomly noticed that I am at exactly 2000 followers on Twitter (seriously, I hardly ever look at the counts). I wanted to document the date somewhere, so thought I might as well put it here.

A Quick Rant on the Oil Spill in the Gulf

BP has been ordered to expedite its cleanup efforts. The gulf is a mess. Many just want to “BLAME BP”.

Newsflash – while certainly BP should get some of the blame, this really is our fault. It’s our addiction to oil that’s the real cause of this. Oil is at the heart of the Iraq mess. Oil is at the heart of the Afghanistan situation. And oil is obviously at the heard of the oil mess happening in the gulf right now. So, until people are ready to spend the money, make some hard choices, and kick our pathetic addiction to oil, these types of things are going to continue to happen; again and again and again. If you find yourself bitching and moaning about the oil flowing into the gulf, go invest some money in solar or wind power for your home. Get a hybrid. Put a greenhouse in the backyard and plant a garden. Walk instead of drive. Stay in for a night instead of driving across town. Take the bus. Accept that it’s going to cost some money to develop alternative energy sources. Accept that it won’t be easy (the best things seldom are). Do ANYTHING to help kick our oil addiction. Here’s an article I found talking about how we can end our oil addiction – read it.

By all means, donate money to organizations such as Sierra Club and Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund. But if you are not willing to put in the time, effort, and money to kick our reliance on oil, please do us all a favor and shut your mouth.

Sorry for the rant.

The Oil Mess in the Gulf – No Matter How You Look at It, It’s Our Fault

What a thing we have created. What an extraordinary horror our rapacious need for cheap, endless energy hath unleashed; it’s a monster of a scale and proportion we can barely even fathom.

Because if you’re honest, no matter where you stand, no matter your politics, religion, income or mode of transport, you see this beast of creeping death and you understand: That is us. The spill may be many things, but more than anything else it is a giant, horrifying mirror.

Twilight: New Moon Music Video Spoof

Here is a Twilight New Moon music video spoof done by my old colleague Beau Lewis at Seedwell, so I thought I’d share it here. I watched it and it was entertaining, though I probably don’t totally “get it” because, I’ll be honest, I really have no clue what “Twilight” is.

Beau was also behind the Mac vs PC rap video.

All the McDonald’s in the United States

mcd_us_high-600x435

A heatmap of McDonald’s and ,wow, that’s sure is a lot of McDonald’s. I must say, all the fast food this country eats is truly pathetic.

Side note: my college buddy suggested that AT&T should partner with McDonald’s and set up 3g towers on all their stores, and I agree with him — it’s the only way for them to catch up w/ Verizon.

A Prague Story that Will Make You Laugh

I woke up this morning in Prague to a cell phone ringing somewhere in my hostel room (8 person room) around 7:30 or 8. I hear someone rummaging around in their pockets to find the phone, then a male voice answers groggily and listens to the other person on the line for a moment. The voice in my room answers “on the floor” — it’s obvious his friend asked where he was. He then hangs up, gets up off the floor, and stumbles out of the room still trying to piece together the night — and how he ended up on the floor of a random hostel room. Sounds like a good night. Still not really sure how he got into our room in the first place though — and I’m guessing I never will find out.

And seriously, I was 100% sober last night following two nights at Oktoberfest in Munich — so this definitely wasn’t me.

I’ve Never Watched LOST. Seriously

I’ve Never Watched LOST. Seriously

Why do I say that? Since putting this new theme up a few days ago, I’ve had 4 or 5 people tell me that the header reminds them of LOST. So I just wanted to set the record straight that I’ve never watched LOST and the show did not play into my choice of a header image. In fact, the beach in the header is actually a photo I took myself at Playa Grande in the Dominican Republich last November.

Now that that’s all cleared up, back to your regularly scheduled Sunday evening…

FINALLY — A New Look and Feel for this Blog

It’s been over 2 years — April 14, 2007 to be exact — since I’ve put a new theme on this blog. I’ve been wanting to give this blog a new look and feel for the past few months, but never got around to getting it done. I’ve known  Cory Miller (who runs WebDesign.com and iThemes) for several years and was lucky enough to finally meet him in person while at Inman in San Francisco. He offered to help me out with a new blog redesign, so I took him up on the offer. Two nav bars in the header, a new header image, and just a new look and feel in general were the main things I wanted to accomplish — and I think the new theme accomplishes all of those goals.

Let me know what you think or if you see anything funky that needs to be fixed! And thanks again to Cory for putting together the new theme for me!

A Quote About The Ducks

I’m a UW alumni, so thought this quote my friend sent to me today was particularly entertaining:

Ducks are the college football version of Paris Hilton…they’re famous for no reason, they look pretty and they got a rich daddy – Kirk Herbsteit
