For me, that time period is about 24 months. My last theme certainly served its purpose having lasted over 4 years, but I’m now beyond tired of looking at it and it was time for a change. So, I started a redesign a few weeks ago and tonight marks the completion of that process. As you can tell, the new design ties in branding for my various online projects – ESM Exec Designs, Geek Estate, myKRO.org, and Oh Hey World.

Thank you to Brandon Matson at BizGarden.net for all the hard work he put into the design and development of this site. We’re still working through a few various styling elements, so please leave a comment if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

Onward towards an awesome 2012…

Particularly in a time where everyone is producing some sort of online content on a daily basis, I firmly believe that great writing is the best way to stand out from the online pack and advance your career. Anyone can write crap, and there is certainly a LOT of crap on the internet, but great writers are extremely RARE. I happen to know a few of them very well – Diane Tuman, Kris Berg, and Sloane Berrent being at the top of the list. Want to be as good as they are? Get your butt in your chair and start the quest for reaching 10,000 hours of writing time (note Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 hour rule from Outliers).

It’s the dream job. Blogging is one potential avenue to explore to help you accomplish that. If you’re in that camp of wanting to be location independent and thinking about starting a blog, head over and read about the million dollar blog project. The goal is to produce a blog that makes a million dollars — and IS NOT about making money online (a topic already written about far too much).

Bottom line — building a profitable blog is doable. It requires a lot of time and work. And it requires execution, which is where most fail. But I’m sure Corbett and his team can succeed — particularly since they know how to build community (and have a large one already built at Think Traffic).

The advice was:

  • Go to Techememe
  • Blog something intelligent about the top story of the day
  • Link to and mention all the people who have said something intelligent
  • Repeat for 30 days
  • Go to a couple conferences a month
  • You’re an A-list blogger.

I just found an entire membership site revolving around becoming an A-List Blogger, so maybe there is a little more to it?

What do you think? Is it still that easy? What does “a-list blogger” mean anyway?

What got me thinking about this? I don’t know. Call it a random Sunday evening.
