Though it’s been several years, I’ve written about news consumption habits before. When it comes to news nowadays, I don’t really consume any of it. At least, not mainstream news.

mainstream media

Why? The vast, vast majority of news is in-actionable. If something is ultra important, I’ll hear about it on Twitter or Facebook (or in person).

There are only so many hours in the day, and, particularly as a co-founder of a very early stage company, I need to focus my time and energy on initiatives that further my business. If something is not furthering my knowledge, relationships, or business, I view that as part of the time suck economy (more on that here) and choose not to engage in that behavior. That said, I do consume industry news – ie related to travel and technology (and real estate occasionally) – since I view that as necessary to making the right strategic decisions regarding my business.

What are your news consumption habits? How much time per day do you spend keeping “in the know”?
