Amazon announced Textbook Rentals on the Kindle. One word. FINALLY The traditional textbook industry has needed to be wiped out for a number of years now. Another industry to bite the dust. Well done Amazon, well done.

Interview with Slicehost Founders

I just watched the 4 videos seen here with Matt and Jason from SliceHost. Really fascinating to hear them talk through starting the company, selling it to RackSpace, and then moving on to their next ventures. There’s some great advice in the 4th video from Matt in the last few minutes: Half the battle is just starting something and showing up. So many people talk themselves out of everything. You can what if yourself to death. [don't do this] Start moving, start putting one foot in front of the other. There aren’t shortcuts. Show up and start working, and sometimes good things will happen.

A Useful Service for Someone That Wants to Build Their Personal Network

Here’s an idea for someone scratching for a way to build your brand and personal network or make a little side income, particularly if you happen to have an interest in real estate. The idea: follow the most influential 200-400 people in a given industry (real estate being the industry I’m interested in) on both Twitter and Google+. Monitor the daily conversations they are having. Summarize the most interesting and in depth conversations they have on a daily basis. Write 1 post a day on a blog that summarizes and links to all the important conversations someone that cares about that industry should be aware of. Google+ Is Cool, But…

Moving your entire web presence to Google+ doesn’t make much sense to me. I’m 100% in agreement with Chris Brogan. My “home base” (my blog) is always going to be, well, home; I can’t ever imagine giving up control of my home to someone else.

Less is More

I have three words in response to the RIM news that they will deliver 7 new smart phones in the coming months. Less is More Instead of pumping out 7 crappy phones, why don’t they focus their resources on building 1 amazing phone? The iPhone is a single phone. And it’s amazing. It goes back to quality of quantity. I’m in the quality camp. I think those businesses that continue to focus on quantity are going to fail over time.
