2011-2012 NBA Champions??
2011-2012 Champions? Let’s see… Not the Lakers. Kobe is too old, and Phil Jackson is out of the picture. Not the Bulls. Derrick Rose doesn’t have enough experience and they have no legitimate #2. Not the Thunder. Westbrook is not a point guard that can lead his team to the championship even though they have the best player in the NBA in Durant. Not the Celtics. Too old, though I wish they would win another championship – you can’t help but love KG and Ray Ray. That leaves the Mavs and Heat. Mavs in 6.

Middle Men in Negotiations (and Why You Should Get Rid of Them)
This morning, I discovered this great article by Mark Suster — Don’t Cede Control: Why You Need to Cut out Middle Men in Negotiations. Seriously, go read it. [via Fred Wilson]
Your Reality Is Negotiable
Great quote from Corbett Barr’s latest post – Your Reality is Negotiable: Make new friends, change jobs, move to a new place, start reading new books or blogs, find a mentor, stop watching so much junk TV, stop hanging out with the negative nellies in your life, and start doing more things that make you come alive. Additionally, this quote from Jim Rohn is one I’ve heard before somewhere, but haven’t really thought about: You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Based on my own experience, I think that’s true — or the number is close at least (less than 10). Luckily, I spend my time with pretty … Continue reading
What are Shares of Z Really Worth?
Some of you may think I have some grand answers to this question given that I worked for Zillow for close to five years. But, unfortunately for you, I don’t have any secret information that would help me make a better guess as to what their shares are truly worth than you do. That said, I do have one leg up on the average person outside the Zillow walls — I know the people inside the walls. I’m a big believer that, at the end of the day, success is all about people and execution. There are a lot of smart people at Zillow. A lot. And they have all been through the trenches before. … Continue reading
Chronicling the Zillow IPO
Today is a happy day — as I found out that Zillow.com, my former employer of almost 5 years prior to my departure in January of 2010, is going to be a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol Z starting tomorrow. Like all shareholders of the company, I’ve been waiting for this day since they filed their S1 in April. I’ll post some additional thoughts on the IPO sometime tomorrow — either here or elsewhere on the web in a guest post. Here’s the Zillow Blog post from CEO Spencer Rascoff. [Update 7/20: I posted some predictions as to where the fresh capital will be spent over at AgentGenius] For old times … Continue reading
If You Want a Great Example of Community Building
Read the story of the iHub on White African; they’ve built an amazing community of people in Nairobi that’s made the iHub successful. I was there for a couple weeks back in October to witness it early on, but it sounds like they’ve come a long way since then. If you are looking to build ANY community ANYWHERE, they are a strong example to follow. Lastly, it’s safe to say I’m a huge proponent of the iHub concept (and would love multiple iHubs around the globe to be available to travelers).
