Kitchen Table Companies & Simple Design

I love this website. It’s clear Chris and team have thought out how to sell their membership site effectively — and it’s no surprise it’s an extremely simple design without unnecessary crap on the page. As Marc says, brevity works. You have seconds before someone bounces. Too many people make the (massive) mistake of trying to cram a website with too much irrelevant information. With a page full of crap, you all but guarantee to bounce your next visitor — and each and every one after that until you simplify things.

Social Media Quote of the Day

I love this quote from Peter Shankman: Social media is not “cool.” MAKING MONEY IS COOL. Social Media is simply another arrow in the quiver of marketing, and that quiver is designed to GENERATE REVENUE. If you’re doing anything else with social media, here’s a book of matches, and I expect to never see you again after the smoke clears. Too many people think of social media as a standalone concept, which couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve told people for a long time that people that “succeed” with social media are those that have figured out how to use it to better accomplish their day to day goals. They are not the people … Continue reading

Automatic Check-In at Local Businesses – Is There an App for that Already?

I feel there’s a missed opportunity by local businesses to harness social media. It seems more and more I’m starting to see “Like Us on Facebook” and “Follow us on Facebook” at places like Quizznos. They are paying for print materials to encourage customers to engage with them via social media. But what if they went one step farther — and made it drop dead simple for customers to check in on FourSquare/Yelp/Gowalla while at the establishment? What if you could just “bump” your phone against a device that sat in local establishments right when you walked in? Or what if, when you paid for a burger at McDonald’s or a 6 inch sub at … Continue reading

Relationships and Trust Drive Buying Decisions

I’ve written about this before in terms of social media, but I think it’s worth repeating. Relationships drive buying decisions, and social media simply amplifies that. Another case in point today between Darin Persinger and I on Twitter. 1st tweet: 2nd tweet: 3rd tweet: I’ve known Darin awhile (both online and in person), and trust his opinion on pretty much everything. This is why I feel strongly that influencer marketing is a very very proven strategy when it comes to marketing. If you reach influencers aka connectors that talk to dozens of people daily like Darin (and you have a great product), it’ll drive sales. BTW, you can buy the book too – Click here … Continue reading

A Bare Bones Computer for $25 – the Raspberry Pi

I found this via via Chris Brogan’s tweet. Interesting to think about the prospects of a totally bare bones computer for as little as $25.
