A Really Smart Strategy for a Non Profit to Attract/Retain Volunteers

I thought this “Thank you to our volunteers” video put together by the team at Vittana was an extremely smart move on their part. Creating videos such as this that portray the personality behind an organization is exactly the way to go about building stronger relationships with existing volunteers and humanize the organization further for potential volunteers. There are no shortage of organizations out there who are seeking help from volunteers, so each and every one must attempt to stand out from the rest — and often that comes down to personal relationships, which can only be built via getting to know the team. I got an email from my friend Lindsey Maxfield, the Communities … Continue reading

I’m Now Posted up in Greece on Santorini for the Summer

After stopping in San Francisco for Bay to Breakers last weekend (which was absolutely awesome), Brooke and I begun our journey to Greece bright and early Monday morning. Roughly 24 hours later, we touched down in Athens. Definitely the longest travel day I’ve ever done – San Fran to Chicago to Philly to Frankfurt to Athens. We proceeded to our hostel in Athens and met up with my high school buddy Dan Nelson, who now runs Bankvibe.com. On the subway en route to the port, three locals tried to pickpocket us by crowding around us and pushing us into other people, but we came out of with everything. So the stories about Athens pickpocketers are … Continue reading

I Love Technology

Right now, I’m sitting at the Coffee Bar in the Mission District of San Francisco (which I originally found in 2009) working. I successfully participated in this week’s YouReach Media webinar a few minutes ago and now I’m hunkering down to write content all afternoon. The power of technology to empower me to do this from anywhere is incredible. All I need is my Macbook Air and wifi.

Seattle – It’s Been Real. Next Up – San Francisco and Greece and then Who Knows

I’ve called the Seattle area home for 27 years, but all — or most — good things come to an end at some point in time. If you read this blog, you know I just went to Asia for two weeks and am planning to travel for much of 2010. What’s next on the world tour? On Friday morning, a friend and I fly to San Francisco for the Bay to Breakers. Last year, 3 friends and I went for the weekend and it was by far and away the best time I had all year with the exception of my time in Europe. This year, it’s Bay to Breakers ROUND 2 — and I’m STOKED. If … Continue reading

2 Weeks in Asia Was Unreal

I’ve been back for a week and have gotten over my jet lag. Asia absolutely rocks. I’m just saying. Jerry and I spent 4 nights in Tokyo and 10 days in Seoul. We had two close friends from college teaching English in Seoul, so that was the main reason for the trip. Tokyo was a little bit overrated — I was expecting New York and I got Bangkok. We did go to a baseball game at the Tokyo Dome which was pretty cool. Side note: there was not a SINGLE ATM inside the dome and the vendors don’t take credit cards — not sure what kind of business are they trying to run, but it doesn’t … Continue reading

Another SEO Spammer Doesn’t Get It

From: [removed] Subject: SEO Service Message Body: We would like to get your website on first page of Google. All of our processes use the most ethical “”white hat”” Search Engine Optimization techniques that will not get your website banned or penalized. Please reply and I would be happy to send you a proposal. Really? When will these spammers learn this doesn’t work? Who in their right mind would hire an SEO person who doesn’t even list their website? And based on this pitch, I’m betting I know more about SEO than this person.
