“What Should I To Do With My Life?”

“What Should I To Do With My Life?” It’s a question each and every one of us has to answer at some point in our lives. My good friend Kayla Villnow, who recently started her own blog, just read a book (“What Should I Do with My Life?” by Po Bronson) about that exact topic. The answer is different for everyone, and some people never do figure it out. I consider myself lucky that I think (nothing is set in stone) I found my calling at such an early age — I wrote back in October of 2006 that it was: working in the small business space in a technology company, starting my own company, … Continue reading

A Quote About The Ducks

I’m a UW alumni, so thought this quote my friend sent to me today was particularly entertaining: Ducks are the college football version of Paris Hilton…they’re famous for no reason, they look pretty and they got a rich daddy – Kirk Herbsteit

WTF?

From 1st hand experience, I can now say you’ll meet some weird people camping. This really happened this weekend to my two friends and me at the KOA campground in West Glacier; it was too weird not to share. A couple from Michigan and Maine on a long road trip came over from the camp site next to us to say hello and introduce themselves. Great Example of a Follow Up E-mail

As I’ve said before, follow-up is crucial to succeed in business/life. Below is an example of a great follow up from Kris Arnebeck, whom I met while in San Francisco a couple weeks ago: Hi Drew, It was great to meet you at Connect last week, and those were some damn good burritos we had! Enjoy your upcoming trip to Oktoberfest…be sure to get there by early afternoon, unless you already have a table reserved. Otherwise it can be tough to find a seat in the tents which is required to get beer. Good luck with your work at Zillow and the other projects you are working on. BTW – the video you linked to … Continue reading

A Great Reminder – “We”, not “Me”

I had a great phone call with Ines Hegedus-Garcia (her blog is Miamism) this evening and we talked a bit about fundraising. She gave me a good reminder that’s worth repeating here — when fundraising, make the conversation all about how much “we” can raise; don’t make it about “me”. It shouldn’t be about getting recognition for what you are doing — it should be about raising as much money as possible for the cause at hand. Getting buy in and support for anything in life comes back to making people feel involved in the process; fundraising is no different and making the biggest impact possible is worth swallowing your pride over in favor of … Continue reading
